HOURS OF WORK
Full time Monday to Friday, 40 hours per week.
Occasional night-time online meetings may be required.
CONTRACT DURATION
Initially 1 year (including a 2-month probation period) with possibility of extension.

JOB SUMMARY
The role of a Bioinformatics Associate is to perform detailed omics data analysis and pipeline development in biomedical research and clinical application. The Bioinformatics Associate also develops a storage and archiving system so that other members can access the omics data sets. This role includes mentoring junior team members and managing relationships with internal and external stakeholders to ensure successful project delivery.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Generate and deliver output results from established data analysis pipeline by executing these pipelines at scale in a cloud environment.
- Work with bioinformatics to troubleshoot pipeline execution failures.
- Use knowledge of Linux OS and the cloud to optimize cost and runtime of pipelines.
- Troubleshoot pipeline execution issues and help improve error handling.
- Ensure data are analyzed and reports are delivered in a timely manner.
- Contribute to improvement of existing or development of new bioinformatics pipelines when qualified.
- Document all code, errors, and corrective actions carefully.
- Mentor and guide junior bioinformatics staff and interns in technical best practices and workflow optimization.
- Lead small project teams and coordinate cross-functional collaboration.
ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS
- Ph.D's or Master's degree in Bioinformatics, Computer Science, Information Technology, Data Science, Maths, Physics, or a related field.
- Familiar with molecular biology and genomics or willing to learn.
- Proficiency in the use of bioinformatics software and biological databases.
- Familiarity with the application of statistical analytical methods in genome, microbiome, transcriptome, and epigenome data analysis.
- Experiences in using reactive workflow framework such as NextFlow, Snakemake or WDL; Git/GitHub; Containers such as Docker or Singularity and multiQC.
- Proficiency in a minimum of one programming language (e.g., Python, R), Linux command lines and bash script in a UNIX/Linux environment.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Provide technical training sessions and knowledge transfer.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Have experience of independent working on a front-end or back-end or software dev project.
- Experience in using high-performance computing and storage systems (SLURM, PBS).
- Implement bioinformatics algorithms efficiently using Java, Rust or any other language.
- Teamwork.
